Without the opportunity to change, if we were restricted to being ourselves for eternity, life would be appalling. Hope of being able to "heal", hope of seeing better days, of bettering ourselves and of evolving is the most priceless gift we receive when coming into the world. This can be frightening, but fear must be addressed and overcome, as must pain. "Panta rei os potamòs", the Greeks used to say, "Everything flows like a river": change is continuous, light and darkness alternate endlessly.
“We are currently facing a period of darkness. Our ecosystem has been disrupted; a virus, a simple virus, has driven the hubris of capital (and whoever worships it, albeit against their will) to its knees. A multitude of different issues has come to a head. What world is this when culture is not recognised as a remedy for the soul, just as medicine is for the body?
What kind of world is a world in which you can dispense with theatres, cinemas and museums?
What kind of world is a 'social media' world that has nothing social to it? If we consider this pandemic, this unexpected standstill, as an opportunity to "die" and be "reborn" based on new assumptions, then all this pain would have some meaning. Were we to re-establish a new kind of Humanism, one that would restore values such as a respect for nature, a respect for life, a respect for diversity, and a desire for a more balanced way of life, then everything we have endured so far would not be in vain. My hope lies in the young.” Serena Sinigaglia
