about text

Humanity is covered in blinkers, rules. We live the life of all the inhabitants of this planet, except our own. But in rare moments we feel our ōs (from latin: axis or expression of ourselves), which doesn’t pay attention to the rest of humanity and is telling us where we should look and how we should feel. Ōs is subjective and speculative, it is in everyone, but few want to direct their gaze opposite of the reality that appears to them. We can look at the world through The Inverted Glove; the story can turn into any old way, any kind of events can happen in it, the world can turn inside out, or not. We can understand everything without analysis or perspectives, without politics and sociology, without hate and love. All we need to do is to observe our ōs.

A synthesis of multimedia and drama elements in the performance Ōs translates a dialogue between two mystical characters into contemporary language; in it, a net of superstitions is woven that only seems archaic at first glance. In our difficult times of cultural unification and separation, irrational theatre contributes to the creation of the thought about a community of people and worlds that are seemingly incompatible. A joint project of two countries allows heirs of two different cultures, different mentalities to join on a single stage. Two actresses with seemingly random details in their biographies, each one with her own inner life and languages that are clearly unlike each other, will create world that can only be seen, heard, and felt. The actresses research and learn about the point of creating thoughts that knows no linguistic and social obstacles.

The production, based on motifs from the story collection The Inverted Glove (Izvrnuta rukavica, 1989) by the Serbian writer Milorad Pavić, is co-produced with the Russian Osobnyak Theatre from Saint Petersburg; directed by Alexey Obraztsov, with a Slovenian-Russian cast.
