Encounter

Although only two members are present, the chamber play Encounter is, is fact, a play about an entire family. It won the Croatian playwright Nina Mitrović (1978), who was first introduced to Nova Gorica audience in 2007 with the play This Bed is too Short or Just Fragments, awards at home and internationally. Encounter dissects the relationship between the father and the son, a relationship that has always been conditioned by the fundamental differences in their characters and their unpreparedness to listen to one another. The situation the play shows is an encounter after years of estrangement, in a time when the father in facing the end of life fast approaching. Through the semblance of a communication between the two characters who try to work through the intimate chapters of their small community, but have far too little understanding and personal capabilities to form a deeper bond, the image of the entire family appears through fragments.
Director Primož Bebler has delved into the depths of suppressed emotions for the Slovenian first performance.
