Authorial project Love for the Neighbour draws inspiration from the novel of the same name by one of the most prominent contemporary French writers Pascal Bruckner. The artistic team researches, from their personal and the social stand, the fundamental value of our society: the love of our neighbour, and us in relation to it. Where is the border between the realisation of one’s own fantasies of love involvement and the brutal invasion into the territory of human coexistence?
The performance tackles, among other things, the overlooked beauty of the unrealised bodies, subjected to dictates of social conventions … and tries to show the genuineness of different types of love.
With a series of extraordinary stagings over the past few years, director Jernej Lorenci has become the most sought-after Slovenian director. Among his many awards let us just mention the Prešeren Fund Award in 2014 for Attempts on Her Life, The Tempest, Danton’s Death and The Crazy Locomotive. Fourteen years ago, he created Three Sisters with our ensemble and, now with the performance of The Stranger, he continues to develop his authorial touch on the drama and music performative aesthetics in which he has also staged the poetic play The Dead Man Comes for his Sweetheart by Svetlana Makarovič and Homer’s The Iliad.
