Dundo Maroje (uncle Maroje), a frugal – indeed stingy – old man, who has dedicated his life to amassing money, sent his son Maro to Florence with five thousand ducats, but the fun-thirsty young man prefers to go to Rome instead. There he is blinded by love for the vain Laura, to whom he would give the Earth. When the father learns about his son’s folly he follows him in order to save him. But when he arrives in Rome, he first encounters Pompet, a clever servant, who has to stop Maro and help his master find the way to Laura’s heart. Between the confrontation of the two competitors for Laura’s love and the confrontation of the father and the son, a web of comic situations is created. And when – in the middle of Rome – ours (who speak in a dialect) start arguing with Germans and Italians who do not speak any foreign languages, a Babel-like circus is not very far …
