YOUNG STAGE AMO

AMO Youth Stage has been active in Nova Gorica since 1977. At first, it operated under the leadership and mentorship of its founder Emil Aberšek who passed the torch to the group’s current leader, dramaturg and director Tereza Gregorič in 2014. The Amo group is known as the heart of Gorica youth, because over the years, over 400 young people stepped on its stage, and many more followed their activities. The Amo Youth Stage programme today is conceived very widely and offers young people theatre content of different genres. As Gregorič emphasises, their common mission is to attract even more young people to the stage and, in addition to providing them with space, also bring in different professionals from all segments of theatre as mentors. “Even more important than performing onstage is the development of the audience, in my opinion. In addition to developing artists and creators, we’re including theatre into their everyday life and thus build a theatre audience of the new generation,” says Tereza Gregorič.

Two groups are active within the AMO Youth Stage: the Small and Big Amo Youth Stage. In this way, the newcomers can learn the basics of theatre art, while the more experienced ones can further hone their skills and conclude the season with a larger production for young adults, which then becomes a part of the young audience repertoire at the SNT Nova Gorica. Additionally, the young artists join different international projects where they meet and exchange experiences with thespians from different countries.
